SHORT DESCRIPTION: The purpose of this course is to understand and coordinate the different types of emergencies that may take place in the work area.
COURSE CONTENTS:
Different types of emergencies;
Difference between an emergency and an incident;
Identify the most likely emergencies that may be encountered in a workplace according to industry type and workplace conditions;
Effects of these emergencies in the workplace in terms of their impact on staff health, safety & production;
Explain various responses to an alarm;
Procedures to be followed in the event of specific alarms in terms of worksite emergency policies & procedures;
Purpose of mandatory, statutory and informative warnings and signs are explained according to specified requirements;
Importance of adhering to the symbolic signs is explained in terms of responding to an alarm;
Explain actions required of an Emergency Coordinator in an assembly area;
Procedures to account for all evacuated parties are explained in accordance with safety and workplace procedures;
Methods utilised to account for and record all parties not evacuated are explained with examples in terms of the impact on people and emergency workers;
Procedures to organise emergency teams are explained with reference to speedy response time by mutual aiders;
Information to be provided to mutual aiders is explained in terms of them rendering a professional service;
Explain the functions of an emergency control centre;
Records required of the events of an emergency are explained in terms of regulations and organisational procedures;
Communication structures at the emergency are explained with examples of how they work and flow;
Types of information required to manage the emergency are explained in terms of regulatory requirements and safety of people and property.
